As an extravert empowered by travel, I am driven by passion for cultural awareness, social diversity, and the pursuit of not only knowledge but independent thought. Having lived and studied in 3 countries, I have thus far experienced 12 countries outside of North America, spanning the continents of Europe, Africa, and South America.

Born and raised in Valdez, Alaska, I have always been connected to the outdoors. Whether working as a volunteer on oil spill animal rescue efforts or contributing to park protection as a Boy Scout, the positive impact of people on the environment has always been a priority. In 2005, my love of the outdoors prompted my wedding to a music teacher to be held in Yosemite National Park.

During my K-12 schooling, I participated in 1-3 theatre productions per year until graduation. Having long practiced the craft of public speaking, I am a natural team member/leader and have no qualm with being outspoken.

This quality often inadvertently elects me into representative positions from small group projects up to student and professional organizations. I currently continue several years of work with Design Circle and the local chapter of IDSA. In addition, speaking gave me a number of opportunities to give lectures and teach courses during my undergraduate career.

I graduated Magna Cum Laude from The Ohio State University's Department of Design in 2006 as the top student in my major and won Best in Show for my thesis project. I received a bachelor of science in design, with additional focus in the areas of linguistics, computer & information sciences, and wayfinding psychology. During my senior year, I was priveleged to also study at the School of Design in Schwäbisch Gmünd, Germany as well as the School of Industrial Design in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Favorite activities include cooking without recipes, entertaining guests, engaging in witty banter, getting lost in the wilderness, learning new languages, building computers, and exploiting the vector capabilities of Photoshop. I am an avid collector of obscure music, a watcher of odd films, and a fan of docudramas. I have never had or wanted a cellphone, but I check my email relentlessly.
